Action hay sheds are the best-practice way to store hay for on-farm storage and export hay facilities
Cost-Effective & Heavy-Duty Hay Shed Designs
Action Steel hay sheds have a heavy-duty UB column and open web truss construction that uses all Australian steel materials and is fully hot-dip galvanised.
The standard span range and our best-practice hay shed designs such as the recommended open-front configuration are cost-effective and functional.
Our building consultants are also available to provide advice on hay shed sizes and capacity. For example:
- Bay spacing (distance between columns) is an important consideration for hay storage. Standard bay spacings including 8 metres, 8.5 metres and 9 metres.
- Standard span sizes help to create a cost-effective and practical design. Popular spans for hay storage include 18 metres, 24 metres and 27 metres.
- The height of your shed needs to suit the machinery you use to load and unload the shed (such as a front-end loader or telehandler). Common hay shed heights include 6.75 metres (7 bales high) and 7.5 metres or 8 metres (eight bales high)
You can find some great examples here – 9 Of The Best Hay Shed Kit Sizes (& Prices).
Customise Your Shed Kit For Functional Hay Storage
Customising your shed can increase the functionality and versatility of your storage. Some ideas include:
- Sliding doors in the side wall or gable end for easy access
- Hay bumps to protect the back wall from machinery damage
- Cantilevered canopy for additional weather protection and temporary storage space.
Speak with our building consultants for project specific advice on details like clearance heights and capacity.
